Assignment 6/19 due 6/22

BOSTON -- State police were investigating the death of a Westminster, Mass., driver after her car crashed on Route 2 in Leominster early Tuesday.
Troopers said they were called to the scene of a crash on Route 2 east near the Route 113 exit about 6:30 a.m.
They said the driver, identified as Barbara A. Oja, 65, was operating a 2005 Honda Accord on Route 2 east when she lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the left shoulder of the roadway and struck the median’s Jersey barrier.
Oja was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash but she suffered serious injuries, troopers said. She was taken to Leominster Hospital, where she later died.
The highway was closed for about two hours and the crash remains under investigation.
I think that she was either drowsy or drunk, both are good examples of when not to be driving a vehicle.
Type 1: 9 Numbers and the Risks Involved

#'s 1-62: 7,29,55

7 = B: Malfunctions - air conditioner broken...
29 = C: Structural Design - no air bag...
55 = E: Preventative Maintenance-smoke film on windshield...

#'s 63-150: 71,111,122

71 = A: Alcohol and other drugs - high on drugs...
111 = D: distractions outside of car - rubbernecking...
122 = F: Fitness or other - blurred vision...

#'s 151-223: 209,218,223

209 = G: Other motorists - vehicle going through red light...
218 = H: Pedestrians,Bicyclists,Animals - hitchhiker...
223 = H: Pedestrians,Bicyclists,Animals - squirrel running into the street...

MY THOUGHTS

7 - i don't believe that this "risk" can cause a crash unless you are a snowman driving in mid summer... it can be eliminated by getting the air conditioner fixed.

29 - this is a definite factor in judging if you survive in a crash but it won't be a crash prevention unless it deploys when you are driving... but you don't have one, do you? Get an airbag to eliminate the problem.

55 - if able to be adjusted by you and not the manufacturer then it can be a risk due to being too dark. Adjust the darn thing!

71 - if you are high on drugs then you are unable to sense what is happening around you and your depth perception is messed up and your reaction time is way slower... major risk of getting in a crash. DON'T DO DRUGS!

111 - Rubbernecking is extremely dangerous to everyone because for the time you aren't watching the road then you could be veering to the sides or not seeing a car stopping quickly in front of you... pay attention to the road now and worry about other things later.

122 - With blurred vision you shouldn't be driving... you should get your vision checked and if they say that you shouldn't drive then don't drive. major risk for collisions.

209 - A vehicle going through a red light can really mess up your day... if not your whole life. Even though it was someone Else's wrongdoing you must still watch out for the other vehicle. There is no way to actually prevent this from happening.

218 - hitchhikers are extremely dangerous because they are unpredictable and can become a distraction. To prevent this from happening don't pick up a hitchhiker.

223 - ah yes, we reach the old squirrel in the road risk... there is no way to prevent that from happening and it is a risk because people tend to swerve to avoid it. They either swerve to the left into oncoming traffic causing a collision or they swerve to the right, off the road causing a collision which might make someone do some rubbernecking.
